Educators and Students: Join the Hikianalia Voyage!

Aloha,

In preparation for the upcoming Worldwide Voyage in 2013, you and your students are invited to participate in a pilot education program tracking the maiden voyage of Hikianalia – the brand new sister canoe for Hōkūle‘a – as she voyages from Aotearoa to Hawai‘i in October 2012. For more information on Hikianalia, click here.

Hikianalia is modeled after the vaka moana of the Pacific Voyagers that visited Hawai‘i in 2011.

Voyage Timeline: Early October – Late November 2012

  • Leg 1:  Aotearoa to Tahiti
  • Leg 2:  Tahiti to Hawai‘i

Age Level: 3rd – 12th Grade

Every few days, our crew members will send the following information to the PVS blog (http://hokulea.org):

  • Position (Sunrise and Sunset)
  • Weather Observations – Wind Speed & Direction
  • Celestial Observations (Navigation Stars, Planets & Moon Phases)
  • Animal Life (Sea Birds & Sea Life)
  • Marine Debris
  • Progress Reports
